Dancing is fun
and playful.
Play is physical and mental education.
Play has been an instinctual way to foster creativity,
imagination and
teamwork; one learns to cope and adapt, take risks, cooperate, compete
and
accomplish.
Fountain
of Youth
One
of the creators of the Lindy Hop is Frankie
Manning. He said in
a 1997 interviews at
the age of 81, “Dancing keeps me young and for anyone out
there who’s not
dancing, better start.”
Frankie is now
92 years old. He still dances and he still teaches the Lindy Hop. Mickey
& Frankie Quoted by
Mickey, Frankie Manning’s dance partner, "The other
thing about dance I very much like is the interaction with my
partner. I find that it that really helps blend and
balance me as a
person because it’s something I don't do all the
time, but it's something
that is very good to know because we don't live in the world by
ourselves.”

Italian researchers have come up with a novel way for
cardiac rehabilitation patients to exercise their damaged hearts
without having to squeeze into spandex or gyrate in a gym: Waltzing…"This may be a more
effective way of getting people to exercise, and may be more fun than
running on a treadmill," said Dr. Robert Bonow, cardiology chief at
Northwestern University School of Medicine. "Maybe we should try that
here. I'm not sure we can get Americans to waltz, but they can
certainly dance."
Keep a Sharp Mind!
In a recent study of nearly 500 people by the Albert
Einstein Center in the Bronx, N.Y., dancing was the only
regular physical activity associated with a significant decrease in the
incidence of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Among the
participants in the Verghese study, those who danced frequently --
three or four times a week -- showed 76 percent less incidence of
dementia than those who danced only once a week or not at
all…that purely physical activities -- swimming,
bicycling, walking -- had no preventive value.
